Hello everyone, this is not like most blogs about fishing. Yes, we will be talking about fishing and teaching you some techniques, but this blog is about me taking my three boys fishing. Taking kids fishing is a lot of work, but when the kid is reeling in a fish it is all worth it. My three boys really enjoy fishing however, I have learned you have to find the fish fast and get them catching. Kids don’t like going fishing for hours and not catching anything. When they aren’t biting, you need to teach them something about nature. Also, when it is warm let them go swimming or look for crawdads in the shallow rocks.
To get kids into fishing, don’t go buy nightcrawlers or minnows, put them on a bobber, throw them out, and sit back. They will be bored and start reeling it in, and you will say ” Leave it, you will never catch anything doing that.” That is not to say I haven’t taken boys bluegill fishing with bobbers and nightcrawlers. They have a blast catching bluegill off the bank. It will be a lot of work as you are always putting bait on and unhooking fish, they tangle up on the bank, and lose hooks. But, look at the big smile they have when they catch a bluegill.
I love to bass fish! Something about taking a lure and making a bass blow up or bite gives me a rush. I love catching bass, but watching my boys catch a big bass is just one of the greatest things in the world. It is like your boy making a winning shot in basketball or scoring a touchdown. The difference is there are other people watching and cheering. So, I thought it is time to share these moments with you; the good, the bad, the ugly. There are so many people out there that don’t have time to take kids fishing because their kids are so busy in sports and other activities. If you would take your kids fishing once a month, they will never forget it. Spending time with your kids is priceless. I will try to show you how to catch fish and spend time with your kids at the lake or pond.
Very excited about this blog! I know very little about fishing and have always wanted to be able to help my husband help our boys when we go out. He doesn’t have time to fish himself, let alone teach me. Also, knowing Tate he makes everything fun, exciting and a big adventure, isn’t that what a day out on the lake should be like.
Thanks Sis!!!
I look forward to your blogs! My five year old son has started asking me about taking him fishing and put it on our summer bucket list!
Thanks!!
Great to see you writing about your time spent fishing with the boys Tate! I always enjoy seeing the fish pics you send me and hearing how they’ve done in their club Ts. Keep up the good work with this blog.
Thanks Dustin we needed to plan a trip up to your area to fish!
Tate,
You are what Fishing’s Future is all about! If more people were like you and you wife, there would be no need for Fishing’s Future. Thank you
