We decided to have a big bass contest one evening. Kyle caught his personnel best smallmouth. Using Powertackle PG143-70 rod.

LAKE FORK SWIMBAIT FISH
Spent 4 days on Lake Fork; very tough fishing. We fished shallow and deep, and caught fish in all water depths. Focused a lot out deep trying to catch a big fish. Was able to catch one seven+ fish on a deep point in 25 feet water. They never really grouped up. Did see fish in 35 feet of water, but really never could get any to bite. It was a blast to spend 4 days on Lake Fork with the Family. There is always next time.
NICK BIG FISH
It was a slow day. When Nick hookup with a 6 lb 2 oz. Smallmouth. Getting closer to that Kansas record. Caught it using Powertackle PG143-70. Powertackle Rods are the best rod on the market. Without them we wouldn’t be landing these big fish.
BIG BUZZBAIT FISH
First topwater fish of the year, and it is a good one. Was using a black buzzbait on Powertackle PG144-70 with 20lb fluorocarbon. I really like using fluorocarbon for my buzzbaits. You really only need two colors of buzzbaits, white and black. Pick up one and start throwing it.
Melvern Spring Tournment
Boys and I decided to have a little fish off on Melvern in March since all the tournaments had been cancelled. It going to be a two day fish off. Also happened to have a special guest show up.
April Fishing on Wilson
Jigs with Kyle
Today’s blog is being written by Kyle this time,
I have been throwing a jig a lot more then in the past, about every trip actually. I have been catching lots of fish on mainly two colors. I have been letting the bait fall to the bottom, and drag it along, hopping it over cover and rocks. The jig has generated different bites for example, one small tick, a pull, swimming with it, and some bites feel weird. The two fish I caught were part of a 20 pound bag I caught and three of the fish weighed 5 pounds. The fish bit all three ways I listed. These fish came on the same color of jig, in the same spot, I also lost a good sized fish that was probably another five pounder. I have been using a Powertackle “The One” 04MH rod for jigs. I really love the sensitivity and power to horse the fish in.
FISHING SOLO TRIP ON MELVERN
Just got back from Sam Rayburn. Needed to prefish Melvern for Mr. Bass. Twins were too wore out and it was a really cold day. So, I tackled Melvern by myself. Was able to find some really nice smallmouth. Was throwing a crankbait on Powertackle PG143 rod. They don’t make the model anymore, but closest action is LPC470. Check them out at https://powertackle.com.
2020 MARCH BASS FISHING
This is been a crazy month with everything going on in the world. Fishing his been awesome with warmer weather. The lakes are starting to hit middle 50’s here in Kansas. You better grab a rod and go fishing. Remember to practice insolation, just fish with house members and don’t stop at many places on the way to the lake.
A goal this year is to catch Hundred fish over 3 pounds. We already have 21 at the end of March. Some of the lakes we have fished are Sam Rayburn in Texas, and we have spent a lot of days on Melvern with the best being on cold, cloudy days. Also, we have fished a couple of smaller lakes, and our last trip of the month was on Perry lake.
The best lures in Texas were Jerkbaits, Senko and Jigs. Wish I would have spent more time throwing a Jig. Back in Kansas, best baits have been lipless Crankbaits, Swimbaits, Ned Rig and Jigs.
I would say April going to be very incredible. Two things to look for is warmer water and watch the Moon Phases as the best days will be two to three days before and after the Full Moon and New Moon. A couple of baits to try are Spinnerbaits, Square Bills and Soft Plastics. Maybe a big swimbait could catch you a big fish. With everything going on, grab your rods and go fishing, Good Luck!!!!
Sam Rayburn Final Day
Last day on Sam Rayburn. Had a great last day catching fish on jigs and Jerkbaits. We caught around 45 fish with a couple of 3 and 4 pounders. It was a great trip. I had fun making memories with the boys.
