Best Jerkbait Day on the Water!

This is a video of fishing a Megabass Ito Vision Magnum GP on a local small lake in Kansas. I had only a couple of hours to fish. The air temperature was around 63 degrees on a beautiful February day. I had a blast catching about 60 fish. At one point, I had caught 25 fish on 26 straight casts. I had a couple of fish on a 3/4oz. Football Jig. Both baits were fished on Powertackle rods. The jig was on a Paragon PG104.76 and the Jerkbait was on a Paragon PG143-70.

2020 Fishing Goals

Catch Personnel Best Smallmouth. Broke this record multiple times this last year. Ended the year with 4.90lb caught at Milford on topwater. I have linked the video http://www.triplehooked.com/2019/10/11/big-smallmouth-on-milford

It is that time of the year for setting goals for the upcoming year. First, I want to review a couple of goals from last year that I accomplished.

2019 Goals:

Finish in the Top 3 boater in Flint Hills Bass Club. Won Angler of The Year.

Catch some fish on Bull Shad Swimbait. Had a couple of nice strikes on the bull shad. But, I don’t have the right gear. So this year, hopefully, I can make the adjustment to my gear in order to land the fish when they strike.

Catch some fish on Spoon. I wasn’t able to fish the spoon that much this last year because of high water. Hopefully this next year, I can try it some.

I have to say the best lures this last year were Spinnerbaits and Lipless Crankbaits.

2020 Goals:

I plan on fishing Mr. Bass at Melvern and the Second State Qualifier on Wilson. Goal is to be a Qualifier for the Kansas State Team.

Learn to use my depthfinder better. Last year, I got the Garmin Panapotix. What a game changer! It was incredible to watch where the fish were in the water depth. Also, helped a lot with finding brush piles and make multiple casts.

Catch 20 fish on a Bull Shad Swimbait. I really enjoyed throwing the big bait this last year. I had more strikes on the 6 inch model then the smaller Bull Shad. Funny thing, I throw it more in tournaments then just fun fishing. I would like to build more confidence with it. I really like pitching around cover; something about the fall makes the fish strike it.

Learning to be able to catch fish multiple days on the same water. Last year, we lost the KBN Youth Team Championship on Wilson because we didn’t adjust on the second day. But, at the club classic on Truman, I was able to make adjustments to get the win. I learned a trick that hopefully will keep the boys and I going in the right direction.

Like to introduce more kids to fishing this next year. I will try to take more kids fishing with the boys and I to teach kids about the great outdoors and have some fun fishing.

It is always fun to make fishing goals. In order to keep getting better at something, it always takes a lot of work and determination. So, never settle, always push yourself to get better.

Lipless Crankbait + Fall = Fish

We started throwing Spinnerbaits and Rattletraps in the trees catching a couple of small fish. Then, we found a pile of fish on a roadbed. We mostly caught fish on Lipless Crankbait using Powertackle PG143-70 rod, and had to use multiple different type of retrieve.

Powertackle doesn’t make the Paragon rods anymore. So, the closest rod they have to the PG143-70 is the LPC470. Check them out at https://powertackle.com/product/lpc470/

STRENGTHS

Kyle and I with a couple of Banner Creek Fall Bass.

Hope everyone had a great holiday. It is that time to reflect on the fishing season. It was an incredible season. With all the high water this year, it really made us have to drive around in the state and fish. Even when I went down to Sam Rayburn, it was high. I was still able to win Angler of the Year in the Flint Hills Bass Club. As fisherman, we have strengths and weakness.

A couple of strengths are my confidence in my decision making. Kyle had a great quote this year, “Dad you made some great decisions on the water this year.” I would say my fishing changed after the boys lost their State Championship on the second day at Wilson. I made some really bad decisions on second day. I told them afterwards, it was my fault and it will not happen again. We all know in this sport, it will happen again. Everyone knows all year it ate at me. But it pushed me to fish harder and change my fishing style.

Second strength is my equipment. I have some of the best rods on the market. I been fishing Powertackle rods for this whole decade. The sensitivity and strength is incredible. My whole family has caught a lot of big fish this decade, even in the last five years. One thing that has not changed is the rods we use. I have tired different brands, and they don’t stand up to the abuse. I hate when you buy a rod and about halfway thru the season you have to replace the guides. I have never had to replace a guide on a Powertackle rods. Some rods I have had for ten years. The rods come with Black Nickel Titanium Recoil guides. If you are a serious tournament angler or weekend warrior check these rods out. I would also like to announced that I have join Powertackle Field Staff Team. So if you would like to check the rods out, go to powertackle.com, or if you see me at a tournament or at the lake come, check them out. I can get you a 10% discount.

Third strength is the trust and confident in your lures and lines. Lasts couple of years, I been trying different spinnerbaits. I finally found the two that I trust to throw. There are a lot of great spinnerbaits out there and everyone will have a different choice. I knew this year spinnerbaits would play a huge role in our tournament season. I threw two different brands of line, Sunline and Berkley Big Game.

Next Blog will be about some of my weakness and how I will get better at them this year.

Just Having A Little Fun Fishing!

Due to the wind, we had to stay back in a little pocket and just have some fun catching bass. Could never catch any big fish. But, anytime you can spend time with your boys on the water is a good day. I hope you enjoy.
