Last day on Sam Rayburn. Had a great last day catching fish on jigs and Jerkbaits. We caught around 45 fish with a couple of 3 and 4 pounders. It was a great trip. I had fun making memories with the boys.

Sam Rayburn Part 2 Day 3
We had a really good afternoon when we moved to a different area of the lake. Nick was able to catch a good fish. Kyle got tired of catching spotted bass. Watch to the end. Kyle thought it was still basketball season. Best bait was a Senko, but I started to catch some on a 1/2oz. Flippin’ jig Green Pumpkin w/Beaver Green Pumpkin Trailer.
Sam Rayburn Part 1 Day 3
On day three it started out foggy, so we decided to stay in the take off area. There is always released fish from tournaments. We were able to catch two three pounders and a couple of keepers. It was a very productive day. In one pocket Nick caught six fish. We ended up with 36 fish for whole day. Most of the fish up to this point have been caught on Chatterbait and Senko.
Sam Rayburn Trip Day 1 & 2
I decided to surprise the Twins with a Trip to Sam Rayburn for Spring Break. There was a group of guys from the Flint Hills Bass Club that have gone to Sam Rayburn the last couple of years. So, we decided to join them. The boys were excited hearing we were going. Sunday morning around 1:30 am, we left for Sam Rayburn. It was an 11 hour trip. When we finally got there, the boys and I decided to put on the lake. We were able to get in two hours of fishing; catching 8 but lost 5.
Next Day, when we got on the water, we fished the south side because the wind was supposed to blow. We ended up catching a lot of spotted bass. Catching most of the fish on Senko and Hard Jerkbaits. I did lose one big fish on a Football Jig in some brush that we never saw. At the end of the day, we were only able to catch 14 bass and losing 8 fish. The fish were biting very weird with the rain and full moon. Hoping the next couple of days would be better.
Best Jerkbait Day on the Water!
This is a video of fishing a Megabass Ito Vision Magnum GP on a local small lake in Kansas. I had only a couple of hours to fish. The air temperature was around 63 degrees on a beautiful February day. I had a blast catching about 60 fish. At one point, I had caught 25 fish on 26 straight casts. I had a couple of fish on a 3/4oz. Football Jig. Both baits were fished on Powertackle rods. The jig was on a Paragon PG104.76 and the Jerkbait was on a Paragon PG143-70.
2020 Fishing Goals
Catch Personnel Best Smallmouth. Broke this record multiple times this last year. Ended the year with 4.90lb caught at Milford on topwater. I have linked the video http://www.triplehooked.com/2019/10/11/big-smallmouth-on-milford
It is that time of the year for setting goals for the upcoming year. First, I want to review a couple of goals from last year that I accomplished.
2019 Goals:
Finish in the Top 3 boater in Flint Hills Bass Club. Won Angler of The Year.
Catch some fish on Bull Shad Swimbait. Had a couple of nice strikes on the bull shad. But, I don’t have the right gear. So this year, hopefully, I can make the adjustment to my gear in order to land the fish when they strike.
Catch some fish on Spoon. I wasn’t able to fish the spoon that much this last year because of high water. Hopefully this next year, I can try it some.
I have to say the best lures this last year were Spinnerbaits and Lipless Crankbaits.
2020 Goals:
I plan on fishing Mr. Bass at Melvern and the Second State Qualifier on Wilson. Goal is to be a Qualifier for the Kansas State Team.
Learn to use my depthfinder better. Last year, I got the Garmin Panapotix. What a game changer! It was incredible to watch where the fish were in the water depth. Also, helped a lot with finding brush piles and make multiple casts.
Catch 20 fish on a Bull Shad Swimbait. I really enjoyed throwing the big bait this last year. I had more strikes on the 6 inch model then the smaller Bull Shad. Funny thing, I throw it more in tournaments then just fun fishing. I would like to build more confidence with it. I really like pitching around cover; something about the fall makes the fish strike it.
Learning to be able to catch fish multiple days on the same water. Last year, we lost the KBN Youth Team Championship on Wilson because we didn’t adjust on the second day. But, at the club classic on Truman, I was able to make adjustments to get the win. I learned a trick that hopefully will keep the boys and I going in the right direction.
Like to introduce more kids to fishing this next year. I will try to take more kids fishing with the boys and I to teach kids about the great outdoors and have some fun fishing.
It is always fun to make fishing goals. In order to keep getting better at something, it always takes a lot of work and determination. So, never settle, always push yourself to get better.
Fall Family Fishing Trip
Had a great trip this last fall with the family fishing a little local lake. Most of the fish were caught on spinnerbaits in the trees. It was nice to have Melissa with us. She put on a show catching around 25 fish herself. I hope you enjoy the video.
Lipless Crankbait + Fall = Fish
We started throwing Spinnerbaits and Rattletraps in the trees catching a couple of small fish. Then, we found a pile of fish on a roadbed. We mostly caught fish on Lipless Crankbait using Powertackle PG143-70 rod, and had to use multiple different type of retrieve.
Powertackle doesn’t make the Paragon rods anymore. So, the closest rod they have to the PG143-70 is the LPC470. Check them out at https://powertackle.com/product/lpc470/
Just Having A Little Fun Fishing!
Due to the wind, we had to stay back in a little pocket and just have some fun catching bass. Could never catch any big fish. But, anytime you can spend time with your boys on the water is a good day. I hope you enjoy.
2019 Tate’s Fishing Tournament Highlights
Like to share a couple of highlights from my Tournaments. I really don’t video much of my events because of time. Hopefully this next year, I will be able to video more.
